Local Talent Shines at Second Annual KRTUFest
Trinity University's KRTU Indie Overnight, in collaboration with San Antonio's newest venue, Stable Hall at the Pearl, hosted the second annual KRTUFest this Saturday. The free event drew a diverse audience, ranging from current Trinity students to families of the bands to local music enthusiasts. DJ JJ Lopez provided the jams before and between sets, entertaining the crowd and drawing in more attendees from outside the venue.
The festival lineup spanned various musical genres, from Latin Indie to alt-rock, featuring local acts such as singer-songwriter Dylan Lee. Lee's Americana sound opened the event, filling the hall with resonating lyricism through songs like "G.O.A.T" (greatest of all time). Despite being the first on stage, Lee's performance didn’t end there!
Following Lee was Retro Cowgirl, who kicked off their set with an electric introduction and killer dance moves. Engaging the audience, they taught lyrics for sing-alongs, including their latest single "Roots," featured in their Tiny Desk submission. Their performance left a lasting impression, with the guitarist and bassist swapping instruments between songs and mingling with fans during the set.
INOHA took the stage next, with their families proudly singing along in the crowd. They performed "GESHUOU," the latest single in their discography, and a song entitled "Saturday Nights," during which the crowd echoed back the lyrics to them. Many INOHA fans were in attendance, flooding their merchandise table immediately after their energetic set.
The evening's headliner and final act was Volcan, a Latin Indie Orchestra featuring special guests Eddy Longoria from 'Los Juanos' and Israel Alcala. The entire set brought everyone to their feet, old and young alike dancing along to their cumbia beats. The number of people on stage grew throughout the set, with additional original members joining in, and Dylan Lee making another appearance with the Volcan group.
